Red Car Brewery – Torrance, CA | Great Brews and Burgers

RED CAR BREWERY

The Red Car Brewery in Torrance, California is a great place to go if you’re in the mood for some microbrew with some incredible garlic fries and pizzas.  They also have great burgers, spicy ketchup, and tender juicy turkey burgers.  Let’s dig a little deeper on some of the menu items.

South Bay IPA

This beer is one of my favorites.  It’s about 9% alcohol but not as pronounced in alcohol flavor as most microbrews.

 

Turkey Burger with Chipotle Mayo and Garlic Fries

Firstly, you have to ask for the Garlic Fries, but they’re well worth the extra words.  The fries aren’t too heavily salted as you get in most burger joints, and they have a great crunch with an intoxicating garlic aroma.  Every time I walk in the restaurant I have to order them just from the smell.  The burger is lean ground turkey that is grilled and topped with pickles, red onions, lettuce, swiss cheese, and a chipotle mayo.  The burger was tender, juicy, and flavorful.  The swiss cheese and chipotle mayo add a tangy spicy bite to the burger.

 

 

BBQ Chicken Pizza

“Grilled Barbecue Chicken w/sliced red onion, cilantro, and a mixture of smoked Gouda, and mozzarella cheeses.”  The chicken was still tender, which is the usual culprit of a bad chicken pizza.  The red onion and cilantro combo is one of my favorite combos in the food world.  My favorite part of the pizza is the Gouda mozzarella combination, very few flavors compare to the smokey delight of Gouda.

Fried Calamari

As much as you may not expect calamari to be good from a brewery/burger bar, this is some of THEE BEST calamari I’ve had in a really long time.  The squid was perfectly breaded and fried to golden brown deliciousness.  But more importantly, the squid melts in your mouth.  The tenderness level of squid is hard to perfect as you only have a short window to get it right.  You either cook the squid for 2 minutes or 45 minutes, and you only really have 2 minutes to cook it with the frying method without it getting rubbery or burnt.  There have only been a couple times in my life that I’ve had calamari this good, most of it made by my mom or at high end restaurants.

 

I’ve had a few other items on the menu, my friend had the motorman bacon cheeseburger and said it was a bit dry.  I’ve also had the margherita Pizza before and thought it was great with a fresh light flavor.  The chicken satay appetizers were awesome in my opinion, but my roommates weren’t too thrilled with them, I think because we got it as take out and it was a bit cold when we started eating.
