Blue Cafe, Downingtown, PA

That’s right, it’s in PA, with Caribbean and Southwestern inspired recipes. There are also the classics like Egg’s Benedict, but prepare for the flavor train when you order the North of the Border Burrito!!

Today is the day.  The day you hear about one of my favorite restaurants ever.  It’s called Blue Cafe and it’s in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.  It’s about 40 minutes northwest of Philladelphia, and well worth the drive.  I’m going to take you on a little tour of the menu and just shed some light on this incredible diamond in the rough.

Egg’s Benedict:

Best I’ve ever eaten ever, and it’s my favorite meal to create, and invent with.  According to the menu there’s nothing out of the ordinary, just some Canadian Bacon, English Muffin, Poached Egg, and Hollandaise, but that’s where the secret is.  It’s in the simplicity, the eggs are always poached perfectly to order, whether you like your eggs hard or runny, it can be done.  The Hollandaise is always light and creamy, never have I ever seen anything close to the sludge you get at most restaurants of Hollandaise that has sat for too long, or has had the yolks scramble.

Grilled Quesadilla:

This is really made by the grilling, it brings the tortillas to a whole new level of crunchy flavor.  It’s got grilled chicken, onions, peppers, pico de gallo(incredible pico de gallo at that), and a creamy gooey cheddar-jack cheese.  Every bite has crunch to it, followed by the softness of the cheese and the tenderness of the meat and vegetables, all served with sour cream and salsa.

Caribbean Pork Tenderloin Salad:

I’m not going to go into too much detail on this one.  It’s got a citrus vinaigrette, a spicy caribbean pork tenderloin, and a variety of crunchy and sweet veggies.  A winner by all means.

I recently moved to California, and sadly am no where near Blue Cafe anymore, but I really wanted to share this delight with the world.  The service is always great, the murals on the walls are amazing, as is the local art that hangs on the walls.  There’s also a full coffee bar and some incredible scones.  It’s fairly priced with good portions and great flavor.  IF YOU GO, LET ME KNOW!  Leave a comment!
